Selena Gomez shared a personal update about her health. On Thursday, September 14, the Bad Liar singer revealed that she had undergone a kidney transplant and friend, and fellow actress, Francia Raisa donated her the organ. "I'm very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn't promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of," she captioned the emotional set of photos, posted on Instagram, that show her holding hands with Francia before the operation and her post-op scar.

She continued: "So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery."

Thanking her friend for donating her kidney, she added: "Finally, there aren't words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis. Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made." She then added a link to the Lupus Research Alliance.

Love and support from fellow celebrities and fans quickly poured in for the 25-year-old. With supermodel and friend Sara Sampaio leaving a set of hearts emojis and a crying face. Selena’s fans also took to The Secret Life of the American Teenager star’s Instagram pag and thanked her for coming to the aid of the singer in her time of need. “Thank you. Words can’t describe the respect, love and gratitude we have for you! We all love you from the bottom of our hears and may God bless,” one fan wrote.

Selena revealed that she was diagnosed with Lupus in 2015 – and underwent chemotherapy and spent time in the ICU. The actress opened up about using her platform to educate about the disease saying, “I waited for the right time to talk about it because I am in a great place, and I’m very healthy,” she told Billboard in 2016. “I’m not trying to be loud about it: It was time to use my platform to help.”
