Salma Hayek takes daughter and stepdaughter on inspiring trip to South Africa

Salma Hayek traveled to South Africa on an inspiring journey with two special companions. The 51-year-old actress marked the upcoming World Aids Day (December 1) earlier this month by visiting the country on behalf of the Mothers2Mothers organization. The Hollywood star was joined by her daughter Valentina and stepdaughter Mathilde on the trip.

The Beatriz at Dinner star partnered with the international nonprofit organization, Mothers2Mothers, for the visit to help combat the spread of HIV from infected women to their children. While there, Salma listened to stories from women and children who are infected and spoke to mentors about how they are helping the women combat the virus daily.

Salma, who has worked with the organization for the last two decades, used the trip as a learning experience for her ten-year-old daughter, Valentina, whom she shares with husband François-Henri Pinault, and his teenage daughter Mathilde, from his first marriage to Dorothée Lepère.

"My daughter was there," Salma told the Telegraph. "We put her to work, participating in all kinds of dances and games and clapping, helping to stimulate the young chil- dren’s development. My stepdaughter did interviews with other teenagers. They know that this kind of work is part of my life. A very important part of my life. My kids have seen many different kinds of life and they’re eager to learn, and also pretty cool about it. They jump in and fit in."

The actress admitted that she felt inspired by South Africa and the spirit of the country. "I came back with a lot more energy than I had when I went," she confessed. "There are all these people who wake up in the morning, and go out there and try to find the joy. One thing I can tell you about the South Africans, they do it with joy. When you’re going on these trips people say, 'You’re gonna get infected with Aids,' but that’s not true. You’re going to get infected with life."

Following her trip abroad, Salma took to her Instagram account to share photos of herself with some of the mothers and children she met, which she captioned: “With mothers2mothers in South Africa. #GirlPower.” The mom-of-one noted in her interview, "I have always believed that the great future of the world is in the hands of women.’ And not in the hands of any women, but specifically, mothers." The day after her moving post, she stepped out in much more glam attire for the Mothers2Mothers winter gala in London with husband Fracncois-Henri Pinault.
