Immediately, the entire cast and production of Damien Chazelle's film took the stage to collect the prize. It was all emotion and happiness... the words of gratitute from the directors of the film were present... but something happened, the production team realized that there had been a mistake. The winning movie was ‘Moonlight’ and not ‘La La Land’. Immediately, the actors and production staff of ‘La la land’ began to leave the stage, in the middle of a great bewilderment. Immediately, producer Jordan Horowitz of ‘La La Land’ took the microphone to announce that ‘Moonlight’ had been the winner of the night: "Everything happened too fast... I don’t know if there were two envelopes for Best Actress or what happened, but I can only say that there is a lot of love and unity in this guild," he said in an interview with E! News.

Although the Academy still does not provide an official explanation for what actually happened, ABC News posted on its Twitter account a photo with a close-up of the brown envelope that Warren Beatty held seconds before announcing the winning film. In the envelope is clearly read: "Best Actress in a Leading Role."
The cast of ‘Moonlight’ took the stage at the Dolby Theater and received their award. The excitement was present and each and everyone embraced. Warren Beatty took the microphone to clarify the situation and indicated that he had been given the wrong envelope. "I want to tell you what happened, I opened the envelope and it said 'Emma Stone - La la land," Beatty said. The production of the awards apparently gave him another envelope and the legendary actor read it as it was.

No one could believe what had happened at the 89th Academy Awards... On social media, reactions have not ceased by the mistake at the Oscars. Jimmy Kimmel, the host of the evening, said goodbye to the audience and said, with a bittersweet tone, that he would not return to the gala and that he was to blame.
On this painful incident in the Oscars, several celebrities have reacted, and even the organization of Miss Universe contributed with a funny tweet, in which they showed their solidarity with the Academy. "Have your people called our people - we know what to do," reads the official Miss Universe account. The beauty contest organizer referred to the controversy of the 2015 edition when host Steve Harvey mistakenly crowned Miss Colombia instead of Miss Thailand.
