One of the defining moments of Michelle and Barack's marriage - the moment they learned his big for the presidency had been successful. The family spent the next eight years in the White House - and Michelle confessed to Oprah after their departure that she doesn't miss it. "I describe it as living in the fanciest hotel, and you have your elevator that takes you up to your room, and the lobby where all the action is going on, which was the central floor, and we had to make this normal for children," she said.
A sweet moment with their girls. Michelle has said fun is important in their family dynamic. "In our house we don’t take ourselves too seriously, and laughter is the best form of unity, I think, in a marriage," she says.
Malia, now 20 and 17-year-old Sasha have spread their wings and are finding their place in the world. Malia began studying at Harvard two years ago, following in her parents footsteps, and Sasha is finishing up her senior year in High School. Giving an update on her girls last October, Michelle said: "They’re doing well,” adding: “I’m so proud of them... I think about what it means for them to have their voice heard and to come out of those eight years (in the White House) confident and poised.”
