The Golden Globes' first-ever cold open Jimmy Fallon kicked off the 2017 show with an epic cold open inspired by the Golden Globe-nominated film La La Land. The musical number featured a number of surprise celebrity cameos including nominees Nicole Kidman and Ryan Reynolds – not to mention immy's close pal Justin Timberlake, with whom he re-enacted Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling's famed dance scene. The kids of Stranger Things, Amy Adams, John Travolta, Kit Harington, Rami Malek, Evan Rachel Wood, Sarah Paulson, and Sterling K. Ryan Gosling's heartfelt speech The La La Land star thanked the leading lady in his life, partner Eva Mendes, for helping him win his first Golden Globe award. "You don’t get to be up here without standing on the shoulders of a mountain," he said in his speech. "While I was singing and dancing and having one of the best experiences of my life, my lady was raising our daughter [Esmeralda], pregnant with our other [Amada] and trying to help her brother with his battle with cancer," Ryan said before dedicating his speech to Eva's late brother, Juan Carlos Mendes.
