What inspired Rosamund to act? The star credits Daniel Day-Lewis’ performance in 1993s 'In the Name of the Father' for inspiring her. She has said, “It made me realize the power of film and that this medium could have a physical reaction on me and I hadn't really experienced that before."

Performing certainly runs in the family. The 'Jack Reacher' star grew up surrounded by entertainers, namely her parents. Rosamund's mother Caroline (seen here with the star in 2005) and father Julian are both highly regarded professional opera singers.

Rosamund's first love wasn't film but theater. She fell in love with acting while playing Juliet in the National Youth Theatre of London’s production of Romeo and Juliet at the age of 17. She’s gone on to star in West End shows like Tennessee Williams’ 'Summer and Smoke' and 'Performances' (here in 2008), based on the life of composer Leos Janacek.

Rosamund's enigma was what won over her 'Gone Girl' director, David Fincher and scored her the role. “I pride myself on being able to watch actors and sort of know instinctively what their utility belt is, and I don’t have that with Rosamund," he told Entertainment Weekly. "I didn’t know what she was building off of. There was an opacity there and it was interesting.”

When Rosamund walks the red carpet at the Oscars with fellow nominee Keira Knightley on February 22, it certainly won't be their first meeting. She was her co-star in 'Pride and Prejudice'. “We had such a ball,” she has said about her time on set. “It felt like the innocent days. We felt like a bunch of sisters and we were like sisters for ages afterwards.”

Rosamund's breakout role was as Miranda Frost in 2002s 'Die Another Day' and what a role it was! She went head to head with Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. “You think Bond is so glamorous and will take you around the world,” she told our sister publication Hello! UK. “But we did the interiors in Vancouver. And then we went to London for the exteriors.”

Although she often lives a glamorous life on the red carpet, Rosamund likes nothing better than a regular American road trip. She opened up to our sister publication HELLO! UK saying, “I really like the feeling of travelling alone. I’ve had wonderful experiences. I did a Tennessee Williams play and spent a lot of time driving around the south in Tennessee Williams country and it was wonderful!”

Rejection makes a person stronger right? Rosamund was rejected from many stage schools as people thought she was spoiled. "When I applied for drama school, I was turned down by every single one, which was crushing at 19, although it’s now a badge of pride," she explained. "Later, I met someone who had been on one of the panels, and he admitted I’d done the best audition he’d ever seen... he’d been overruled because his colleagues felt I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth, which simply isn’t true."
