Rihanna’s pregnancy reveal has been a trending topic since her Super Bowl performance last month. The Barbados-born singer, 35, hinted that she is soon to become a mum for the second time by wearing a striking red bodysuit and repeatedly touching her blossoming bump as she sang. Her happy news was soon confirmed by a representative.
The pop diva's confident reveal and maternity fashion choices have added to an interesting debate about modesty and pregnancy. In April 2022, a month before giving birth to her first child Rihanna told Vogue she felt that what is considered "decent" for mums-to-be has changed. She added: “My body is doing incredible things right now, and I’m not going to be ashamed of that. This time should feel celebratory...Why should you be hiding your pregnancy?”
Fans loved both her fashion choices and her stance, with one commenting: “Rihanna is legit redefining maternity wear.”
Now, as her second pregnancy progresses, she's delighting them once more. At this year's Oscars ceremony she rocked three stunning outfits that all drew attention to her growing belly. Her first was a leather bralette and long skirt, layered over a mesh turtleneck dress. For her performance of Lift Me Up, which was nominated for Best Original Song, she wore a Maison Margiela outfit of glimmering black bra and gold-embroidered floral trousers. Her final look was an elegant velvet mint green ensemble that left her belly uncovered.

Among the other fashionable celebs who've shown off striking maternity wear is Cardi B. For the 2021 BET awards she chose a Dolce & Gabbana diamond-covered jumpsuit with a sheer panel over her stomach that framed her blossoming bump.
Of course, the pioneer of bump pride was actress Demi Moore, who caused quite the stir in 1991 when she appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair wearing... nothing at all. Demi insisted: “I think pregnant women are beautiful... I look at my mother and I say, ‘Where’s the pictures of you when you were pregnant?’ She whispers. ‘Oh, there’s only one. I didn’t want anyone to see me.’”
