Royal pregnancy advice

Ellie Goulding, the 36-year-old British pop star, has enjoyed a close friendship with Princess Eugenie, younger daughter of Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew, for years. The two-time Brit winner, who performed at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s nuptials in 2011, also sang at Eugenie’s star-studded wedding in 2018. The Princess and her husband Jack Brooksbank were present at Ellie’s big day less than a year later. 

The Princess and the pop star even became mothers within months of each other. Eugenie welcomed her first child, August, in February 2021, just a couple of months before Ellie’s son Arthur was born. And the Love Me Like You Do star praised the royal for being there for her during her pregnancy. In an interview with the Telegraph, the first-time mum revealed that although she kept her growing bump a secret from the public for 30 weeks, she did tell those close to her, including Eugenie.

The singer added that she was extremely grateful for her support, saying: “She’s been a great friend throughout this. We’ve talked a lot about pregnancy and she’s been inspirational because she just takes everything in her stride.” One practical tip she received was on "where to find the best pregnancy pillows to get a good night’s sleep".

Eugenie, who revealed in January that baby number two is on the way, is a doting parent. Her mother, The Duchess of York, praised her and her older sister Beatrice, who has one daughter, at HELLO!’s Inspiration Awards in October 2021: “My children are phenomenal mothers. They were great children but now they’re phenomenal mothers,” she said.
