The stars who prove a baby bump can be a real showstopper

Although elaborate pregnancy reveals are becoming increasingly common, most people still opt for a low-key approach, sending a text to their nearest and dearest or posting a short message on their social media. But not Rihanna. The Grammy-winning artist flaunted her growing baby bump during her half-time Super Bowl performance this spring in one of the most spectacular pregnancy reveals ever seen.

Balanced on a floating platform above a ram-packed Arizona stadium, the Barbados-born star sang a medley of her greatest hits, including number-one tracks Umbrella, Only Girl (in the World) and Diamonds. Known for her excellent fashion taste, she lived up to her reputation. But this time, it wasn't just her outfit that caught the eye. The striking all-red ensemble showed off a graceful tummy curve, which Rihanna rubbed affectionately in a strong hint that she's expecting. Afterwards, a representative confirmed that she is expecting her second child with rapper A$AP Rocky.

In a pre-show interview Rihanna, whose last concert tour was in 2016, was asked if she would be joined on stage by a special guest. She replied: “I’m thinking about bringing someone. I’m not sure, we’ll see”. Little did we know that the surprise guest would be her second child!

The bold singer is not the first celebrity to break the internet with news of their pregnancy. In February 2017 Beyoncé revealed to her Instagram fans that she was expecting twins with a snap from her maternity shoot. Kneeling on a bed of flowers, covered by a green veil and cradling her bump, the striking photo was the site’s most liked photo of the year. And her first pregnancy reveal was no less sensational. She broke the news on the red carpet at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, before performing her number Love on Top. After singing she opened her sparkling purple jacket and cradled her belly, to the delight of her husband Jay-Z.

Katy Perry also got creative when she announced that she was having a baby with actor Orlando Bloom in 2020. At the end of the music video for her song Never Worn White the camera pans to a silhouette-like shot of the American singer, who is wearing a beautiful tulle skirt and holding her bump. Fans went wild, with one YouTube comment reading: “Sorry but this was the best pregnancy announcement ever.” Katy's daughter Daisy Dove was born in August that year.
