She's been one of the world's favourite actresses ever since Friends hit our screens back in the '90s. Still, it comes as a surprise to realise that Jennifer Aniston turned 54 this month.
The A-lister celebrated her special day, 11 February, by sharing a picture of herself as a child with her late parents, Nancy Dow and John Aniston, who can take some of the credit for her stellar career.
Nancy and John, both actors, chose Telly Savalas, alias TV's Kojak, as their daughter's godfather. During Jennifer's childhood, she witnessed her Greek-born father's rise to fame on hit soap opera Days Of Our Lives. After attending stage school in Manhattan, she herself started acting at an early age.
It was in 1994 that Jennifer got her big break, when she was cast as Central Perk cafe waitress Rachel Green in comedy series Friends. She shone within its ensemble cast and soon became a household name. Even her layered hairstyle was copied by thousands of women worldwide, who called it The Rachel. Thanks to the global success of the programme, by 2000 Jennifer was paid $750,000 per show.

But what the TV star really wanted was silver screen success. Her first foray into movies - 1993's horror comedy Leprechaun - had been no great success. But now, with Friends on her curriculum, studio executives fell over themselves to offer her roles. To begin with, she made romantic comedies such as She's The One and The Object Of My Affection, which mirrored her work in Friends, where she had a long on-screen love affair with David Schwimmer's Ross. But in time she branched out into drama, with well-received work like 2001's Rock Star, in which she plays a groupie opposite Mark Wahlberg, and 2002's The Good Girl.
In 2012 Jennifer became the first Friends actor to be honoured with a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.
She continues to draw huge audiences at the box office, and has won a clutch of awards. Among her recent projects is Netflix's Murder Mystery franchise, the second of which is due out next month.
As for her personal life, she has been married twice, both times to fellow actors. Her marriage to Brad Pitt lasted from 2000 to 2005; her union with Justin Theroux from 2015 to 2017.
