Bono, 2002

At the first Super Bowl since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, U2 frontman Bono paid his respects by displaying the Stars and Stripes lining in his jacket after singing Where The Streets Have No Name. A projection screen showed the names of all the victims of the atrocities.

Janet Jackson, 2004

Justin Timberlake's duet with Janet proved even more thrilling than planned. Among the pair's dance moves was one which involved him ripping her black bodice. In the event, one side of her red lace bra came with it. The brief moment - described as a 'wardrobe malfunction' - made international headlines.

Rolling Stones, 2006

Vintage rocker Mick Jagger drove the audience wild when he swaggered onto a tongue-shaped stage, which was peeled back to reveal a pit of fans underneath.

Madonna, 2012

The Queen of Pop was joined by Nicki Minaj for a cheerleader-inspired show, which was watched by 114 million TV viewers.

Beyoncé, 2013

Seven years after the end of Destiny's Child, the Super Bowl saw Beyoncé reunite with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, who jumped out of trapdoors to take part in an electrifying medley of hits.
