Whether it’s down to (1) environmental, ethical or health reasons, veganism (2) is now a popular diet choice. Here are just a handful of the celebrities who are leading the way.
Beyonce told fans she was turning vegan back in 2018, as she prepared to perform (3) at a music festival. She shared the news on social media, posting: "44 days until Coachella!! Vegan Time!!"
It was a shocking medical diagnosis that prompted Robbie Williams to change his diet. In 2021 the singer explained: "I was eating fish twice a day and I’ve got the highest mercury poisoning the doctor has ever seen." Robbie's been plant-based ever since.
Actress Natalie Portman has been vegetarian since she was nine and a vegan since she was 11. She says: "Lots of people make fun of (4) anybody who cares about anything deeply, right? But I’m here to say, it is always a great thing to care."
Natalie's fellow Hollywood star Alicia Silverstone is certainly a vocal supporter of animal rights. She posed nude (5) during a photoshoot with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) to raise awareness for veganism and shopping ethically.
As for Miley Cyrus, another self-confessed animal-lover, she's eaten only plant-based foods for the past eight years. The pop star even has a tattoo of the Vegan Society’s sunflower logo!
