It was Brigitte Bardot who first brought Hollywood flocking to St Tropez, when she filmed And God Created Woman there. In the 1956 classic BB's famous attractions had serious competition from the setting itself.

The town's ambience is equally irresistible, a seamless mix of simplicity and sophistication.

So, the picturesque Vieux Port harbour sees millionaires’ yachts bobbing on the water next to traditional fishing craft.

Shoppers can stroll from the Place des Lices street market, which offers gorgeous local produce like olives, lavender and woven straw baskets, straight into the boutiques of Dior, Hermès and Louis Vuitton.

Lunch could mean a cliff-top picnic of French bread, charcuterie and fruit washed down with delicate rosé wine - or it could be an elaborate affair on the terrace of one of the exquisite restaurants.

Art lovers can immerse themselves in the legacy of Matisse, Pierre Bonnard and the host of other painters who've been inspired by the light and colours of St Tropez.
