Barbara Streisand and Jason

Jason Gould is singer and actress Barbra's son from her marriage to actor Elliott Gould. He came out as gay when he was 21, in 1988 – still a difficult time for LGBTQ+ people.

"I would never wish for my son to be anything but what he is," Barbra said at the time. "He is bright, kind, sensitive, caring and a very conscientious and good person. He is a very gifted actor and filmmaker. What more could a parent ask for in their child? I have been truly blessed."

Cher and Chaz

Chaz lived as a gay woman for years before coming out as a transgender man in the late 2000s. While pop diva Cher has been supportive of his transition, she has said that it wasn’t always easy for her. The superstar has said: "I remember calling, and the old Chaz message was on the phone, and that was very difficult. But then you have one child, and you don't really lose them – they are just in a different shape."

The former Los Angeles Lakers player's son EJ is gay and came out after photos of him holding a friend's hand were published in 2013. Magic commented that it didn't surprise him.

"I think it's all about you not trying to decide what your daughter or son should be or what you want them to become," he has said. "It's all about loving them no matter who they are... When my son came out, I was so happy for him and happy for us as parents. We love him. EJ is amazing."

Cynthia Nixon and Samuel

The Sex and the City actress’s son Samuel was originally known as Samantha. He told his mother he was trans while he was at university. Cynthia, who is herself lesbian, is a strong ally to both her son and the trans community in general.
