How Lady Kitty Spencer stays in shape

Princess Diana’s beautiful niece believes that confidence and good health are much more important than the number on the scales. Kitty, a successful model, has revealed the habits that make sure she both looks and feels her best.

Lady Kitty, 31, started modelling five years ago, and her stunning blonde looks have always made waves on the catwalk, where she has appeared regularly for Dolce & Gabbana. In photos taken at last autumn’s London Fashion Week she looked fitter than ever, rocking a black sleeveless bustier top that showed off just how toned she is.

The once-curvy Lady Kitty has not only become more muscular, she has also lost a lot of weight over the past few years, but, she says, she’s much more interested in feeling good than she is in measurements.

In an interview with Town and Country, she explained that she decided to change her health habits ahead of her first modelling job in February 2017.

Describing it as "the start of a confidence building exercise", she said: "I remember trying to be really healthy, going to the gym, doing that sort of stuff, and when I tried on the dress for a fitting, Domenico Dolce was like, 'Have you lost weight'?

"I proudly answered, 'Yes!' and he said, 'OK, now the measurements are different...' There was no emphasis on size – that's not what it's about at all."

She doesn't agree with weighing herself, thanks in part to the influence of her mum, former model Victoria Aitken. "My mum says it's unhealthy having scales in the house – they're banned," she explained.

In an interview with Harper's Bazaar in 2019, Lady Kitty revealed that her mum's struggles with anorexia and her late aunt Diana's battle with bulimia helped her to realise the importance of mental as well as physical wellbeing. She’s developed a set of habits that work to keep both her body and brain in great shape.

She exercises regularly
She’s especially keen on spin and barre classes.

She maintains a routine
She makes sure her fitness plan doesn’t slide on holiday. For example, she climbed Sydney Harbour Bridge during a trip to Australia.

She doesn't restrict herself
She's all about balance, and truffle pizza is her go-to treat. "It's all just melted cheese - it's heaven," she says.

She doesn't compare herself to others
She appreciates that everyone’s body is unique, and she doesn't try to change herself for other people, or for work. "I don't think it's my job to starve to fit into an outfit," she has explained. "If a brand wants to work with me, and think their designs look good on me, then they can give them to me in my size."
