MARTINE McCUTCHEON:
the young star tells the devastating story of a childhood spent on the run from her violent father

‘My first memory of my Dad is of him dangling me over a balcony, about 30ft above the ground. I see it in my mind’s eye, as though it were a photograph. It was a moment of uncontrollable madness.’

With these words, 24-year-old actress/singer Martine McCutcheon begins the story of her life, told in her soon-to-be-released autobiography Who Does She Think She Is?, which is currently being serialised exclusively in HELLO! In this week’s edition, she describes her childhood up until the age of nine, how her violent father refused to accept that his relationship with Martine’s mother was over, and pursued them from home to home.

A recent photograph of Martine’s real father
Thomas, known as Keith. Martine hasn’t seen
him since she was nine and insists, ‘I have
no wish to see him’

‘I was only five years old at the time,’ she recounts in one incident, ‘yet I can honestly say I truly wanted to kill my father. I sat on the stairs shaking. Then it all went quiet, deathly quiet. The next thing I heard was this dull thudding. I went downstairs and saw him hitting my mum’s head on the bathroom sink, over and over.’
