QUOTE OF THE WEEK
quote of the week

“I’ve entertained the royal family in the little theatre they have at Windsor. There’s a funny story attached to that.
In front of the stage, there are all manner of nice china pots and, down the centre, there’s a flight of small steps leading to the front row. When I’d finished my act, the Queen and Prince Philip were laughing and applauding so I walked down the steps to take a bow in front of them. I was about to turn around and walk up the steps again when I realised you’re not meant to turn your back on the Queen. So I walked up the steps backwards. Halfway up, I lost my footing and fell among the pots, breaking two of them as I did so.
The Queen looked really concerned. I knew she was worried I might have hurt myself but I deliberately pretended she was upset about the broken china. ‘Don’t worry, Your Majesty,’ I said, ‘I’ll pay for it.’ And that set her off laughing all over again.”
