Two years ago many people wrote off Britney Spears as a one-hit wonder after the success of her single Baby, One More Time. But then her debut album went platinum, as did her second, and now a third single from it seems destined to follow her other songs straight to the top of the charts.
Yet, despite recently being pronounced the new Queen of Pop by Madonna, Britney insists she is a just regular person and that it is her determination to succeed which sets her apart. “I’m really focused,” she says. “I’m very determined when I start to produce something – it’s all I think about. That helps me a lot. I think people see that they can relate to me. I’m a real girl who’s down-to-earth like everyone else. That gives them hope. That makes them say, ‘I can do that too’."
Although she has often been linked with Prince William, the singer is adamant that they have never met – “It’s just a big rumour. But we’ve exchanged notes and stuff like that” – and is currently dating Justin Timberlake, a singer from teen band ’NSync. Before Christmas, she is hoping to move into a new £2 million mansion in her home town of Kentwood, Louisiana, which she plans on sharing with her parents Jamie and Lynne.
